We reckon that there are two types of breakfast depending on what sort of day you have ahead of you.  There’s the quick and easy bite that you can eat before heading off for a busy day.  Then, there are those days when you can take your time and want a real treat.

Those are the days when it’s worth going to town.  You could make it yourself but we love taking the family out.  Not only do you not have to cook, there’s no washing up afterwards either!

Here are our top picks for the best breakfasts in North Ayrshire.

The Kandy Bar

With shops in Saltcoats and West Kilbride, The Kandy Bar weren’t named Scottish Baker of the Year 2016/17 for nothing!  They offer breakfasts for every appetite, including their full Scottish with Stornoway black pudding.  You can buy their tattie scones and crumpets to take away for tomorrow’s breakfast.  They’re also famous for their pies and sausage rolls if you’re after something for lunch too.

Seamill Hydro

We’ve recommended Seamill Hydro before, but you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to breakfast.  Either head to the Orangery for a light brunch with pastries and coffee, or choose the more relaxed Aura bar.  They offer a cold buffet and hot food to order.  We’ve heard the freshly cooked omelettes are a particular highlight.

A trip to Ceccini’s in Ardrossan will give you great food and lovely views out over the marina.  They’ve got everything from Belgian waffles to a full Scottish breakfast to set you up for a day on the water.

GRO Coffee

The name’s a bit of a giveaway – this is the place to come for the best coffee in North Ayrshire.  They’re also famous for their Nutella mocha.  The food’s pretty good too.  They offer home baked cakes and enormous scones so you could get yourself a tea time treat as well.

The Bagel Basket

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to breakfast in Largs.  The Bagel Basket were nominated for a Scottish Food award this year.  They pride themselves on using local produce and fresh ingredients in everything from their delicious bagels to a full Scottish.  There is something here to keep everyone happy.

But if you want to have breakfast with the award winners you need to head here…

The Gypsy Cream

The Gypsy Cream is a wee gem.  They are well known for their delicious homemade soup, but their breakfasts are a real treat too.  If any of your family need gluten free food, they offer that as well.

They’re the perfect spot for a leisurely lunch too.  Their soup and sandwich combo is a particular favourite and everyone we’ve spoken to has come away with a home baked cake.  Whenever you visit you’re guaranteed a cheery hello and great, friendly service.

Over to you

Well, enough about our favourites, what about yours?  Have you visited any of our recommendations and what did you think?  If we’ve missed a gem, let us know and help us to spread the word!
